Domains, auctioned live, worldwide!

New domain names are cheap nowadays, but getting a really good one or two might be tough. Getting a new domain name used to cost as much as US$70 or more (for two-year minimum registration for a .com/net/org at US$35 per year), but today, new names cost for much as well under US$10 per year (with only one minimum year).

But to get a really good names is where the domain "after markets" come in the picture where domains get sold for millions of dollars for names like business.com and wine.com. It may have been a while since we've last heard of big buys of domain names, but today, 15 AUG 2007 (PST) it's BAAACK in one of the largest auction organized by DomainTools and partners at the Domain RoundTable in Seattle, WA, USA. And I can't remember when was the last time, if there has ever been a show for domain auction, live like 777 world-wide concert!

Check out the result of live auction at DomainTools.com or chat at Ustream.TV.

Some of these domains out of 450 names being auctioned this first round of DomainTools auction are already raking in 5-digit or more in buy amount. The following are the big buys so far as of 5.30 am (MYT) - prices in US dollar:-
  1. Rebate.com (1-million)
  2. Invention.com (500K)
  3. AZ.com (500K)
  4. Army.org (99K) - one of the highest for a .org!
  5. MakeMoneyOnline.com (95K)
  6. Castillo.com (35.5K)
  7. Ahora.com (31K)
  8. Finecars.com (30K)
  9. p4.com (30K) - the few short names
  10. p6.com (27K)
  11. FreeHealthInsurance (25K)
  12. RecordingStudios.com (25K)
  13. LowestCost.com (25K)
  14. PayRates.com (25K)
  15. 47150.com (21,250)
  16. Gastronomy.com (15K)
  17. Suspects.com (10.5K)
  18. cMail.com (10K)
(about 10% of the auctioned names are getting the big buys!)

Psst... I actually have one domain being auctioned and it's already getting bids ;-) Cool macbook coming up for me for more pajamaworking... BTW, I've sold a few domains in the past for 5-digit earnings, and you can too! There's no business like domain business!!

If you're pajamaworking or running a pajama enterprise without a domain name yet, why not get one today? You could hit a jackpot a little investment of well under US$10!

Shuth's mistake: "Delaying to outsource"

Hafiz Latib (fondly known as Bitol among his online peers) of the InternetMuda.com online marketing resource online newsletter (who also runs an an Internet graphic-related business through CheapestCovers.com) has done an excellent job in compiling a list of mistakes to have been admittedly done by dozens of Malaysia-based respected Internet Marketers (the locally called "otais" [old-timers] among their fellow IM-ers and loyal "followers').

Subscribers to his list receive a tip from different otais (or IM Gurus) every five days or so.

Tip #19
of Bitol's serial email newsletter is by Mohd Suhaimy (nicknamed: Shuth). Here's a full re-print of this most recent tip in Malay (published with permission from the original writer), followed by a rough translation into English:

Sekian...

Shuth

The simple-but-concise tip in English [roughly translated by Nasir]:

...This happened not when I was starting my Internet business, but rather after I have already established the business and when I started to grow it.

The mistake was... I DID NOT have a "business partner."

When I started my Internet business, the concept of partnership and outsourcing was not something that I believed in. After all, I was able to perform all the tasks required for my business by myself. I've said to myself, "Why would I want to waste money by paying somebody for these tasks?" I figured that in Internet business especially, almost everything can be done myself -- from setting the website, marketing the products, taking and fulfilling orders -- EVERYTHING can be done by a single person!

So, I worked, and worked alone, in front of the computer every day: From morning till night. Soon, my work hours was becoming longer and longer. If earlier, I was able to take a rest every evening, during the later evenings, I was forced to keep staying in front of the PC to take care of my clients -- both new and existing ones.

It wasn't long before my weekends had to be sacrificed too. I wasn't able to take holidays to go back to my parents' kampong that still lacks Internet access. How could I, or my would-be clients would mad if I failed to fulfill their orders in due time.

To make the story short, I've recently hired an assistant who's now my protégé and business partner to help me manage my business. Praise be to God, I'm now able to move around, and start many more business projects. If not, all my time had to be dedicated to the single Internet business I had back then, and thus I could not have grown my business.

In conclusion, to all my friends, if you want to grow your business, you definitely need others' assistance. If anyone says "Well, I don't need anybody else. I alone can do everything!", that means his business is still not big or have grown enough -- still small and has very few clients.

If you don't believe me, try looking at any other successful businesses that are big and profitable by the millions of dollars/ringgit -- are they managed by a 'one-man show'?

The End.

Shuth

He also blogs for slight ly over a year now at MohdSuhaimy.com. Sudahkah anda e-Hasil? (e-Fail Cukai/e-File Tax)

Pajamaworkers or pajama enterprise's owners, including bloggers, internet marketers, freelance writers, paid surfers etc. in Malaysia who have made some earnings during any period of last year (2006), according Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN, ie. Inland Revenue Board (IRB)), would fall under the category of "Individual with income from business source" and thus have to file a B form by or before 30 JUN 2007 (TOMORROW!) instead of BE form (for "Individual with income from non business source (e.g. employment) ") about two months earlier) to LHDN.

The law is strict and the penalties for failing to filing ("FAIL to FILE") your taxable income is severe, per the Income Tax Act 1967 with the following related excerpts:
114. (1) Any person who willfully and with intent to evade or assist any other person to evade tax-
  1. omits from a return made under this Act any income which should be included;

  2. makes a false statement or entry in a return made under this Act;

  3. gives a false answer (orally or in writing) to a question asked or request for information made in pursuance of this Act;

  4. prepares or maintains or authorizes the preparation or maintenance of false books of account or other false records;

  5. falsifies or authorizes the falsification of books of account or other records; or

  6. makes use or authorizes the use of any fraud, art or contrivance,

shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine of not less than one thousand ringgit and not more than twenty thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both, and shall pay a special
penalty of treble the amount of tax which has been undercharged in consequence of the offence or which would have been undercharged if the offence had not been detected.
For last minute folks (like me), sweat not:-
  • Despite several mishaps, incidents, difficulties etc., LHDN has been working hard to make the filing process easier for Malaysians, including the latest introduction of e-Hasil or e-Filing service for individual taxpayers beginning 2004, which happens to be one of the top-10 government electronic services being used by Malaysians today -- and of course, including improving the e-Hasil system itself despite recurring security flaws as reported at WhattaHack (on 7 APR 2007 and later reportedly resolved on 16 APR 2007), hence the popular negative grading of "e-FAILed for LHDN's e-FILE" to make it "Easy, Safe & Accurate". Many users of e-Hasil have also reported some noticed improvements (eg. by Sahaban.com's Gaman on his last-minute e-filing experience and a review by chentong of FinancialPlanningMalaysia.com by despite many more improvements being desired for and some funny incidents regarding spelling (eg. Ranhill — as R for Rumah, A for Ayam, N for Nangka, H for Holland, I for Itik, L for Lain Lain.) and LHDN's suggestive wording for a male e-filer to "Tambah Isteri" (add a wife).

  • LHDN's offices will be opened until 8 pm tomorrow, 30 JUNE 2006.

  • If you've missed the deadline for getting the e-Filing PIN via e-mail/fax/mail, you may simply pickup a phone and contact LHDN (dial 1-300-88-3010 -- NOT TOLL FREE although noted such on its website, but at a local call rate for TM fixed phone line) to get the in PIN in just minutes -- the easiest way if you'd ask me (instead of email/fax or going to the LHDN branches themselves).

After you have completed your due responsibility of e-filing, tax-filers are welcome to fill out and submit a survey form to LHDN to "further improve the quality of services rendered."

Be a good citizen -- a responsible good pajama worker, okay?

LHDN's SHORTCUTs:-

Happy e-Filing!

I bought a Ferrari at Autocity Carnival yesterday

For just RM 3.99 (and told the salesgirl, ("keep the red-cent change")) from Shell, that is... ;-) Vroom! A full-scale real Ferrari would cost like a million bucks (RM) in Malaysia. I wonder if Adsense' cash would pile up enough.... (urgh!) Maybe I need to complete like 1,000 pajamanation micro projects for that...

Here's some more snaps at the venue of Autocity Carnival 2007 in Juru, Penang, that ended yesterday...

Cool ride, eh?

for drifting... (dreaming)

mild crowd on Sunday morning (people are still sleeping aa, duh!)

sexy back...

And some pictures I ripped off The Star:

The beauties that "sold me" these little devils.

I clearly won this "race", but the salesgirl didn't give me anything!
She got me a pen after a lucky draw result instead.

Malaysia's club of top business magnates growing much richer...

BERNAMA today, based on the latest Forbes' List of Richest Malaysians (June 4 issue due on the stand this week) highlights 65% of increase in wealth for the top-40 tycoons from Malaysia, amassing a combination worth exceeding USD43 billion today (from USD26B last year) -- The article is also published in today's New Straits Times, an english-language newspaper with among the largest nationwide circulation in Malaysia.

Among the eight newcomers to the list include Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir (a son of former Malaysia Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed) "with wealth worth US$220 million" (ranked #28) and Singapore-based property (& Singapore F1) tycoon Ong Beng Seng... "with wealth of US$580 million." (#12).

This year's spotlight among others is on the fast-rising Datuk Anthony Fernandes (of the fresh Air Asia & Tune Money empire, "whose US$230 million wealth put him 24th in the list") -- Datuk Tony is scheduled to be a repeat guest speaker at SMIDEX 2007 to be held in the first week of June 2007.

The only two women who made it in this prestigious mogul male-dominated list are Raja Datuk Seri Eleena Raja Azlan Shah (new entry this year) , a Perak princess, a Barrister-at-Law and also among others, a Non Independent Non-Executive Director and the largest invididual shareholder of Gamuda, at number 25th in the list with US$228 million", and Puan Sri Chong Chook Yew "who occupies number 18th with US$320 million."

The top ten wealthiest Malaysians are:-
  1. Tan Sri Robert Kuok Hock Nien: US$7.6 billion (RM 25.8B);
  2. Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan: US$7.4 billion;
  3. Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong: US$4.3 billion;
  4. Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng: US$3.9 billion;
  5. Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow: US$3.5 billion;
  6. Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan: US$3 billion;
  7. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary: US$2 billion;
  8. Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay: US$1.8 billion;
  9. Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King: US$1.2 billion; and,
  10. Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem: US$650 million (RM2.2B).
According to Forbes, "Malaysia's top 10 richest account for 80 per cent of the wealth represented on the list with collective net worth of US$35 billion, up 63 per cent than the year before."

The riches keep getting richer, eh?

Remember that Bill Gates, currently world's richest person on earth for over 10 straight years now (but soon to be toppled by several contenders), recently said that "the next Bill Gates" (wealthiest man) would come from Asia!" The watch is on... (on Asian Dragons: China, India, Vietnam, Malaysia etc.)

Maybe, we should come up soon with a list of the wealthiest pajamapreneurs in the world including the exclusive list of Malaysians ;-) -- We already have several lists for instance, ranking the most influential bloggers, with some of these "little" individuals seemingly having more authority and popularity than corporations-funded web projects/media like TMNET BlueHyppo, NSTP Emedia, The Sun, RTM etc.

Any comments?
